THROES NYC – The Wires Out

THROES NYC’s The Wires Out EP introduces a compelling blend of dark alt-pop, trip-hop and electronic textures, creating a sound that feels both intimate and atmospheric. The Queens, New York duo of multi-instrumentalist and producer Michael Bozzo and vocalist Courtney Leo draw from decades of shared musical chemistry and a deep connection to the city’s underground culture. Across the EP, moody electronic layers and hypnotic rhythms provide a striking backdrop for emotionally charged vocals, while a more melodic pop sensibility gives the project an accessible edge.

The EP explores the complicated territory between attraction, connection and emotional uncertainty. “Something Chemical” represents the darker side of desire, carrying a restless energy that reflects the intensity and unpredictability of attraction. In contrast, “Always, Baby” introduces a softer and more openly romantic perspective, allowing the project to shift naturally between tension and tenderness. These contrasting moods give The Wires Out a sense of emotional movement, making the EP feel less like a collection of disconnected songs and more like different chapters within the same late-night story.

Bozzo and Leo’s artistic identity has been shaped by growing up around the energy of New York’s ’90s and ’00s music scene, with formative experiences at venues including CBGB’s, Roseland Ballroom and Irving Plaza. That history can be felt throughout the release, particularly in its balance of grit, atmosphere and experimentation. THROES NYC’s self-described “altriphop” approach refuses to remain confined to a single genre, instead combining analog warmth, cinematic soundscapes and modern electronic production with Leo’s expressive vocal presence.

The Wires Out succeeds through its ability to embrace imperfection and emotional ambiguity. There is a sense of nostalgia running through the EP, but it never feels trapped in the past; instead, familiar influences are reshaped into something contemporary and distinctly personal. THROES NYC demonstrates a confident understanding of mood, using electronic textures and melodic songwriting to create music suited to late-night listening, reflective moments and intimate spaces. For listeners drawn to alternative pop that values atmosphere as much as emotion, The Wires Out offers an intriguing introduction to a duo with a distinctive sonic identity.
