CONFLICT DLC – HEALTH

LABEL; Loma Vista

RATING; 6.9

CONFLICT DLC, the sixth studio album from Los Angeles trio HEALTH, stands as a haunting continuation of the sonic journey begun with their acclaimed 2023 release Rat Wars. Framing itself conceptually as downloadable content — akin to a video game expansion — the album expands on the dystopian themes of digital overload, existential dread, and emotional disconnection that define modern life.

Musically, CONFLICT DLC blurs the lines between industrial metal, electronic body music, and dance‑ready grooves. The production by STINT, Drew Fulk, and Lars Stalfors gives the record a polished but brutal clarity, where crushing percussion and mechanical guitars collide with shimmering synths and aggressive beats. Opener “Ordinary Loss” sets the tone with its blend of breathy vocals and pummelling rhythms, while tracks like “Burn The Candles” and “Vibe Cop” push the band’s tempo into high gear without sacrificing emotional depth.

Frontman Jake Duzsik’s vocals oscillate between ethereal introspection and raw chant‑like urgency, exploring themes of loss, nihilism, and the psychological weight of an always‑on digital world. Songs like “Thought Leader” foreground this tension with biting commentary on doomscrolling culture, while “Don’t Kill Yourself” and “Antidote” offer vulnerable respites amid the chaos.

Critics have largely welcomed CONFLICT DLC as a bold, if uneven, statement — praising its aggression and inventive sound design while noting that some melodic choices feel diluted under layers of production. On aggregate review sites it holds a strong critic score (~80), with many applauding its dynamic energy and thematic cohesion.

Fans, too, are divided: some hail it as one of the band’s best efforts, others feel it struggles to outshine its predecessor. Nonetheless, CONFLICT DLC remains a compelling, cathartic listen — a soundtrack for our digitally saturated age that invites you not just to endure the conflict, but dance with it.
