BR33Z WORLD – BLACK HEART

BR33Z WORLD’S eight-track album Black Heart is centred on the themes of survival, pain, ambition, loyalty, resilience and the true nature of life on the streets. Starting with “Can’t Run” and ending with “Cry Baby”, the record alternates between more reflective tracks and more intense ones, ensuring that each song has its own distinct character while still retaining a gloomy and thoughtful mood. The lyrics are based on real experiences and the cinematic style helps to link the individual tracks together into a single narrative. Throughout the project there is a clear sense of Bay Area influence, with melodic West Coast hip-hop forming the basis of the album.

The songs ‘Can’t Run’, ‘It Ain’t Easy’ and ‘Dead Inside’ are part of the more reflective side of the album and reflect the album’s emphasis on pain, survival and personal experience. ‘Can’t Change’ follows this trend, whereas ‘The Plug’ brings in another element of the album’s street-oriented viewpoint. Instead of having a single mood throughout all eight tracks, Black Heart alternates between a reflective tone and a more intense one, enabling its themes to come through in different ways of telling a story.

Loyalty and ambition are included alongside the more sombre themes of the album. The track “Never Bite the Hand That Feeds” makes loyalty a part of the tracklist, and “Different View” and “Cry Baby” provide additional sections to the sequence of eight songs. The albums as a whole form a body of work focused on the experiences and emotions associated with survival, life on the streets and rebuilding. The cinematic way of telling the story gives the collection a unified atmosphere, and the melodic West Coast style ensures that the sound remains linked to the California background that influences the project.

Since Black Heart is the first part of a three-album narrative that will continue with Purple Heart and Kiss of Death, it lays the foundation for what comes next. The album sticks to the contrast between pain and resilience, on the one hand, and reflection and the more street-oriented records, on the other, which gives the eight songs a unifying purpose. Although your personal viewpoint is evident throughout, the most significant link between the tracks is the way each one adds to the overall story. Black Heart is a dark, cinematic West Coast hip-hop project influenced by survival, ambition, loyalty and resilience.
