JON GOLD – ASHIA

Jon Gold’s “ASHIA” is a vibrant international collaboration that brings together jazz, Brazilian influences and rhythms from across the globe in an exuberant celebration of connection. Inspired by Gold’s friendship with a member of the Cameroonian community, the single takes its name from a meaningful Cameroonian word associated with gratitude, empathy, sympathy and appreciation. That emotional foundation gives the track significance beyond its infectious energy, while its joyful character makes it an immediately inviting listen.

The arrangement moves with a lively blend of Brazilian samba, Cape Verdean calypso and jazz, alongside echoes of African rhythmic traditions. Gold has assembled an exceptional international cast, including two-time Grammy nominee Mauricio Zottarelli on drums, Jackson Lourenço on bass, Buenos Aires vocalist Juan Lucangioli and American horn player Will Allen. Nigerian musician Ofat provides a memorable tenor contribution, adding another distinctive voice to a recording already rich with cultural influences and instrumental colour.

The international nature of “ASHIA” extends into its creation. Recorded across North America, South America and Africa, the track demonstrates how distance can disappear when musicians share a common creative purpose. The performances come together with remarkable cohesion, giving the single the character of a genuine collaborative labour of love. Gold’s decision to unite musicians from different continents also reinforces the song’s message of solidarity, particularly its tribute to the people of Cameroon and their ongoing struggle for peace.

Gold’s extensive musical journey makes “ASHIA” an especially fitting new chapter. His early exposure to jazz led to performances with the Palo Alto School District Jazz Band and an appearance alongside Dizzy Gillespie, while his later work in Brazil connected him with celebrated figures including A.C. Jobim and Hermeto Pascoal. Following his acclaimed Bossa of Possibility, “ASHIA” points toward an ambitious upcoming album planned for early 2027. With its infectious rhythms, international spirit and message of gratitude, the single offers an uplifting glimpse of what that wider project may deliver.
