KATYA REDPATH – TIME CHANGES EVERYTHING
Katya Redpath’s Time Changes Everything brings together nine songs shaped by folk, blues, Americana, roots music and global influences. The album moves between introspection, humour, resilience and curiosity, with each song approaching its subject from a different angle. “Wake Up” begins with questions about truth, influence and independent thinking, while “Hot Mess” turns toward rebellious energy and humour. “Put It in a Song” considers music as a way of processing difficult experiences, establishing a clear connection between the album’s ideas and its title.
“The Phoenix” draws on ancient myth and poetry to consider destruction, resilience and renewal, giving the album another perspective on change. Its subject sits naturally alongside “Wave,” which considers the turbulence of modern life and the wisdom of moving with change rather than resisting it. Elsewhere, “So Easy” offers a different mood, celebrating love that feels natural and unforced. Together, these songs show an album willing to move between serious questions and more personal, playful observations.
The record also embraces a strong sense of place and cultural movement. “Zanzibar” becomes a spirited journey through languages and cultures, while “Sueño de Samba” closes the album with a dream involving music, memory and dance. These songs sit alongside the more reflective material without losing the album’s connection to travel, history and lived experience. Across the nine tracks, Redpath brings together subjects ranging from philosophy and spirituality to relationships, change and the experiences that leave lasting impressions.

The album’s varied influences are supported by an arrangement that includes Redpath playing most of the instruments herself, with Matt Smith co-producing at Austin’s 6-String Ranch. That hands-on approach connects the different sides of Time Changes Everything while allowing each song to retain its own character. From the questioning tone of “Wake Up” and the humour of “Hot Mess” to the resilience of “The Phoenix” and the cultural journey of “Zanzibar,” the album presents a collection shaped by curiosity, experience and a willingness to explore different sides of life through song.
