LEE MATTHEW PLATT – ONE LAST TIME

Lee Matthew Platt’s One Last Time is an EP that brings together different sides of his songwriting, moving between instrumental grandeur, personal storytelling and quieter reflections on real-life struggles. Originally released in November 2021, the collection was recorded during the COVID period and initially appeared without promotion. Its renewed release gives these songs another opportunity to be heard, with the material offering a varied collection rather than settling into one particular mood or sound.

Opening with “Veterans,” the EP establishes its scope through an epic instrumental introduction. The track sets a different tone from “Journey,” which delivers a deeply personal message to a child. Its emotional impact is particularly evident in the response it received from Platt’s daughter, who reportedly cried after hearing the song. This personal connection gives “Journey” a clear place within the collection, showing how songwriting can communicate feelings that are difficult to express in everyday conversation.

“Alamo” takes the EP in a bold direction, providing a strong contrast to the restrained character of “Nomads Lament.” Addressing homelessness, the latter turns attention towards a serious social issue through quiet reflection. Placing these songs alongside one another highlights the range of subjects and sounds across One Last Time. Rather than following a single emotional path, the EP moves between different perspectives, allowing each track to approach its subject in its own way.

Recorded at home using an iPad and GarageBand between work and family commitments, One Last Time carries a personal connection to the circumstances surrounding its creation. Platt handles the project as its sole musician, bringing the songs together through his own writing and recording process. With influences including Elliott Smith, Nick Drake, Pearl Jam and Brand New, the EP reflects a songwriting approach rooted in personal experiences and memorable melodies. Its combination of bold arrangements, intimate storytelling and varied subject matter gives the collection its distinct character.
