REETOXA – BOTTLE

Reetoxa’s latest single, “Bottle,” is a striking example of how exceptional songwriting can remain timeless. Originally written by Jason McKee in 1995 at the age of fifteen, the track has been carefully reimagined for a contemporary audience while preserving the emotional honesty that inspired its creation. Rather than sounding like a nostalgic revisit, “Bottle” feels purposeful and remarkably relevant, reflecting the maturity of an artist who understood the song’s potential long before it entered the studio.

Inspired by real-life events, the single recounts a chapter of teenage friendship, personal hardship, and mental health struggles in 1990s Australia. The story centres on McKee, his high school sweetheart, and a close friend attempting to navigate difficult family circumstances while searching for hope and stability. The narrative avoids unnecessary dramatics, choosing instead to present genuine experiences with sincerity and restraint. That authenticity gives the composition lasting emotional significance and allows its message to resonate across generations.

Producer Simon Moro deserves considerable recognition for balancing modern production with the character of the original composition. His approach enhances clarity without compromising the song’s distinctive identity. Guitarist James Ryan expands McKee’s original ideas with dynamic textures, while Kit Riley’s bass lines and Peter Marin’s commanding drum performance provide strength and cohesion throughout the arrangement. Recorded at The Avenue Studio in Cheltenham, the recording benefits from the chemistry of experienced musicians whose shared appreciation for alternative rock is evident in every passage.

“Bottle” represents more than the release of a long-awaited song; it reflects perseverance, artistic conviction, and the enduring value of authentic songwriting. Reetoxa continues to establish a distinctive place within Australia’s contemporary rock landscape, demonstrating that meaningful compositions are never confined by the era in which they were written. This impressive release leaves little doubt that Jason McKee’s creative journey is entering an exciting new chapter.
