LUMEN – Excuse Me, Who Are You!?
LUMEN’s debut project, Excuse Me, Who Are You!?, explores identity through a three-part musical experience built around emotion, reinvention and the freedom to exist beyond a single definition. Developed over eight months of writing, recording and reworking songs, the project reflects the different versions of a person that can emerge over time. Its title raises a direct question about self-knowledge, asking how well anyone can know themselves while continuing to change.
Part One introduces this concept through punk and pop-rock, drawing on the nostalgic energy of the late 1990s and 2000s while bringing a contemporary approach to songwriting and production. Rather than presenting one fixed musical identity, LUMEN uses this opening chapter to establish an unpredictable direction. Its emphasis on attitude and a willingness to move beyond familiar boundaries introduces an artist who treats sound as part of the storytelling, allowing each musical choice to reveal another side of the wider project.
Genre fluidity is central to the experience, with LUMEN’s broader musical palette spanning pop, alternative rock and R&B. Each style serves as another way to express a different emotion or aspect of identity, rather than forcing every song into the same framework. This approach reflects the project’s interest in personal growth and the uncertainty that accompanies change. The eight-month process of writing, revising and reimagining the material also connects with its central idea: discovering new sides of yourself can mean reconsidering what you thought you knew.

Rather than offering a complete picture from the outset, Excuse Me, Who Are You!? unfolds across three distinct parts, with the first serving as an introduction to a larger creative direction. Its focus on identity, emotional shifts and reinvention gives the project a clear connecting thread, even as its musical approach resists a single genre. By leaving room for further development in the upcoming chapters, LUMEN presents this debut as an evolving statement about change, individuality and the many versions of ourselves that emerge along the way.
