“It’s Turkey Day” by Sheldon Mashugana combines comedy with the spirit of the holiday around the theme of Thanksgiving. As Sheldon and Crystal give chase to the turkey, the song develops its narrative around one of America’s most well-known holidays, the visit to a Dallas Cowboys game being another element of the adventure. Instead of treating holiday music in a serious way, the single goes for humour, food and the pleasure of spending time together, thus offering a cheerful celebration of Thanksgiving.
The song includes a lot of comedy, especially in the form of Sheldon’s humorous spoken-word comments and the repeated fart jokes which give the story its irreverent nature. The cheerful melodic singing of Crystal acts as a contrast to Sheldon’s comedic style, enabling the two performers to contribute different characteristics to the track. Because of their performances the song achieves its special balance between humour and melody, and the turkey chase offers a clear narrative that takes the listener through the festivities of Thanksgiving day.
A striking aspect of the recording is the inclusion of repeated lyrics, a method that was selected in order to achieve a unique sound and to enhance the effect of the funny parts. The production features Crystal’s melodic singing alongside Sheldon’s humorous comments, ensuring that both aspects remain at the heart of the song’s character. The song was co-written by Sheldon and Crystal, the music being composed by Crystal Carr and Justin Pierce, showing a cooperative way of approaching comedy music. The track was recorded in Atlanta, Georgia, and the mixing was done at Justin Pierce Music in Dallas, Texas.
Apart from the jokes and the plot about chasing turkeys, “It’s Turkey Day” highlights the simple joys connected with Thanksgiving such as eating together, spending time with family and enjoying life. The lively character gives the song a definite aim, providing listeners with a cheerful holiday tune that is based on laughter not on emotional content. The song presents Thanksgiving in an uncomplicated and entertaining way by combining playful storytelling, melodic vocals and Sheldon’s comic style of delivery. “It’s Turkey Day” is a festive comedy single intended to bring humour and a positive atmosphere to the holiday season.
