MASSIMO DONELLI-PAOLO ROSSI – ADORATI SPIRITI
The relationship between an elderly man and a young member of his tribe provides the foundation for “Adorati Spiriti,” a concept album by Massimo Donelli and Paolo Rossi. Set within the story of Native Americans from the Great Lakes region, the album places Chayton and Tokala on opposite sides of a significant generational and cultural divide.
The strength of the concept comes from its refusal to make the two worlds mutually exclusive. Chayton does not demand that Tokala reject his surroundings or return to a distant past. Instead, the album presents an exchange in which the younger man can continue living freely while considering ideas that originated in a very different time. That tension between two generations gives the project a clear sense of purpose.
Chayton is nearing the end of his life, while Tokala has grown up within a modern social environment that bears little resemblance to the world his elder experienced. Their difference in perspective becomes the driving force behind the album’s narrative. Chayton discusses the principles surrounding religion, culture, society, politics, and values, while Tokala stands within a contemporary reality that continues to move forward.

The album’s musical identity draws from progressive rock, jazz fusion, and world music. Donelli is responsible for the compositions, which are reworked using artificial intelligence, while Rossi writes the texts and co-produces the music. Their shared history of playing together when they were younger adds a personal dimension to the collaboration. “Adorati Spiriti” consequently works as a narrative album built around contrasting perspectives, asking how different generations can understand one another while living through very different eras.
