WE ARE TO BLAME – OMEGA ORIGIN

When approaching “Omega Origin” the band wants to make an record on which darkness does not entirely overcome hope. The Swedish alternative melodic metal group constructs the album around a world experiencing uncertainty and turmoil, with the concept of “the beginning of the end” serving as its main thematic element. Alongside personal and collective struggles there is resilience, producing a thematic contrast that gives the album a perspective which is not simply aggressive.

The intensity of the album varies. The record obtains its heaviness from heavy riffs, and an atmospheric production gives it a contrasting feeling of space. Further layers are introduced into the overall sound by the inclusion of progressive, electronic, and symphonic elements, and the alternation between clean vocals and growls and screams ensures that the performances remain diverse. The massive choruses bring the different aspects of the music together and produce moments of greater impact without departing from its melodic nature.

“Omega Origin” also seems to be a natural development on from We Are To Blame’s previous work. It builds on the course set with “Altar”, taking the band in a direction that involves a greater blend of metal, melody, atmosphere and modern production. The band’s influences cover a wide range along the genre spectrum, extending from cinematic pop ballads to melodic death metal, and this variety is evident in the way the album combines more accessible melodic sections with heavier material.

What is clear in regard to the album is that the contrasting characteristics are presented as complementary rather than opposing ones. Darkness can be alongside hope, melody can coexist with aggression, and refined atmospheric textures can back up the heavier metal base. “Omega Origin” shows We Are To Blame at a stage when their existing identity is being extended rather than given up. It is a complete statement centred on contrast, scale, and a definite thematic vision.
